The central place in the Park of the Decembrists is occupied by the monument to the wives of the Decembrists, telling about the selfless deeds of 11 women who followed their husbands into exile in the distant and harsh Siberia.

From 1834 to 1859 15 Decembrists were serving their exile in Tobolsk: N.A. Chizhov, M.A. Fonvizin, S.G. Krasnokutsky, A.P. Baryatinsky, V.I. Steingel, brothers Bobrischev-Pushkin, P.N. Svistunov, I.A. Annenkov, S.M. Semenov, F.B. Wolf, A.M. Muravyov, V.K. Kuchelbecker, A.N. Muravyov, F.M. Bashmakov.

Thanks to Natalia Dmitrievna Fonvizina and Praskovya Yegorovna Annenkova, their houses in Tobolsk became centers of the city’s cultural life, where musical and literary evenings were held.

The square is also decorated with bas-reliefs “The Life of the Decembrists in Tobolsk”, as well as the monument made by the Perm Sculptors Foundation “Unity” and installed in 2008.
