D.I. Mendeleev is located in the very center of modern Tobolsk. In the center of the square there is a monument to the world famous Russian scientist, a native of the city of Tobolsk D.I. Mendeleev. The authors of the project are sculptor V.N. Nikiforov and architect V.I. Nesterov. The opening of the monument took place on February 8, 1984, to the 150th anniversary of the birth of D.I. Mendeleev.

The northern part of the square is notable for the fact that it houses the world’s largest Periodic Table of Chemical Elements – a decorative-planar composition, the area of ​​which is 750 square meters, consists of 55 granite slabs with brass inserts of the names of chemical elements. It was opened in Tobolsk in June 2014, the year of the 180th anniversary of D.I. Mendeleev.
