Apothecary garden

Aptekarskiy Sad – the first cultural forest planting in Tobolsk, is located in the center of historic Tobolsk behind the building of the Garrison Hospital (now Aptekarskaya st., 3).

The first mention of him is found in the “Brief Historical and Topographic Description of the Cities of the Tobolsk Province” and refers to 1801: “… the dragoon stables and with them the officers’ quarters and barracks with a stone arena stand near the Irtysh River and an earthen rampart, in which the garrison hospital is now located , near which there is a rather extensive Pharmaceutical Garden. “

On February 17, 1810, the merchant Vasily Gavrilovich Malkov bought the garden from Prince Meshchersky, and in 1816 donated it to the city to house a military hospital. On the plan of Tobolsk in 1860, the garden is named Botanical.

The garden was one of the favorite recreation places of the townspeople and a city landmark.
