The Alexander Garden got its name from the chapel built in the second half of the 19th century on Platsparadnaya Square in memory of Emperor Alexander II. At the end of the 19th century, part of the square was fenced off for the organization of the city garden, which became a favorite resting place for Tobolsk people. After the revolution, the Alexander Garden was called Pervomaisky for some time.

The garden housed a summer cinema and a dance floor. In 1972, the Soyuz cinema was built near the Alexander Chapel (it collapsed in the fall of 1992). There was also one of the five city monuments to Lenin.

In 2013, in honor of the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov, a royal alley of oak and apple trees was laid in the garden. Her planting was attended by the Chairman of the Charitable Foundation named after Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna – ON. Kulikovskaya-Romanova.
