The square of the Decembrists is decorated with bas-reliefs “The Life of the Decembrists in Tobolsk”, as well as the monument to the Wives of the Decembrists, made by the Perm Sculptors Foundation “Unity” and installed in 2008.

The central bas-relief under the image of the Tobolsk Kremlin contains lines from the poem by A.S. Pushkin.

Written in late December 1826 – early January 1827, it was transferred to A.S. Pushkin A.G. Muravyova, who was leaving Moscow to stay in hard labor at the beginning of January 1827.

From 1834 to 1859 15 Decembrists were serving their exile in Tobolsk: N.A. Chizhov, M.A. Fonvizin, S.G. Krasnokutsky, A.P. Baryatinsky, V.I. Steingel, brothers Bobrischev-Pushkin, P.N. Svistunov, I.A. Annenkov, S.M. Semenov, F.B. Wolf, A.M. Muravyov, V.K. Kuchelbecker, A.N. Muravyov, F.M. Bashmakov.

Their homes in Tobolsk were the centers of the city’s cultural life, where musical and literary evenings were held.
