Khachkar (cross-stone) is a type of Armenian architecture, which is a stone stele with a carved image of a cross. The khachkar is made of tuff stone.
In 2010, the art of creating khachkars with the wording “Symbols and craftsmanship of khachkars, Armenian stone crosses” was included in the UNESCO list of the intangible Cultural heritage of mankind.

Khachkars embody the spirit of the Armenian people. They are a symbol of faith and rebirth.

The initiative to install the khachkar belongs to the Armenian diaspora of Tobolsk in order to preserve and develop Armenian culture, interethnic peace and harmony. The establishment of a cross-stone on the territory of an Orthodox church confirms the spiritual closeness and friendly ties between the peoples of Armenia and Russia.

The grand opening of the khachkar took place on July 28, 2016.
