The stone Church of the Exaltation of the Cross was founded in 1754 to replace the wooden church on an artificial hill, built by the merchants Medvedev for their own home and donated for the temple. The lower warm church was consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Virgin in 1761, the summer-in 1771 in honor of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord. By 1799, the decoration of the interior of the church with decorative stucco was completed. The stucco decoration of the temple is unparalleled not only in Tobolsk, but also in all of Siberia.

The main architectural specificity of the building is created by the Baroque plasticity of the completion of the church and the bell tower. For the first time in Tobolsk architecture, the bell tower in its height and silhouette became the dominant motif, its monolithic tower-like pillar gave a particularly solemn character to the entire composition.
Currently, the church building is preserved and awaiting restoration.
