The Ioanno-Vvedensky Monastery is located 10 kilometers from Tobolsk.

The history of the monastery at this place is connected with the Abalak icon of the Mother of God.
It was founded by the Siberian Archbishop Simeon near the Tatar village of Shantalyk in 1653 and was originally male. In 1864, the monastery was converted to a women’s monastery.

The composition of the monastery is determined by the location of the buildings around the perimeter of the regular quadrangular stone fence, erected in 1805-1806.

The main dominant of the monastery ensemble is the church of St. Nicholas. St. John the Baptist, which was built in 1808-1814 in the classical style, with Baroque elements. One of the oldest buildings of the monastery is the bishop’s building. Originally a one-story building, it was built in 1752. In 1811, the building was added to the second floor.
In 1774, the monastic building was founded, which was completely rebuilt in 1864.

In 1782, a one-story refectory building was built, which after the reconstruction of 1874 became two-story.

In the most remote part of the monastery there is a two-story red brick building of the hospital and almshouse building. It was built in 1916.

In Soviet times, after the closure of the monastery, an orphanage was located on its territory, later a military unit. In 1998, it was transferred to the diocese and resumed as a convent.
