The Alexander Chapel was built in the second half of the XIX century on the Platsparadnaya Square. It was erected in memory of the Emperor Alexander II, who visited Tobolsk in 1837.

The project of the chapel was prepared by the builder of the St. Petersburg “Savior on Spilled Blood”, Academician of architecture A. A. Parland. The construction of the chapel was completed in 1887. The church was consecrated during the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the city of Tobolsk on June 2, 1887.

At the end of the XIX century, part of the square was fenced off for the construction of a city garden.
