In 1878, a midwife school was opened in Tobolsk. It was the second in Russia (after the school for paramedics at the St. Petersburg Orphanage) secondary medical educational institution for women. The Tobolsk obstetric school later turned into a paramedic and midwife.

In 1895, by decree of Emperor Nicholas II, the paramedic and midwife school was transformed into a paramedic and obstetric school.
In 1913, construction began on a two-story brick building at the corner of st. Ilyinskaya and Aptekarsky lane. Due to the outbreak of World War I, construction was suspended and completed in 1915.

After the revolution (from 1918 to 1920), the building was used as an infirmary for patients with typhus. Then the building was used as a hospital: first as a surgical department of the Tobolsk city hospital, then as a maternity hospital, the latter was occupied by the building of the infectious diseases department of the city hospital No. 1.

Since March 2006, it belongs to the Tyumen State University.
