The bell tower was built in the 1860s. Until 1892, there was an Uglich bell in it, which was exiled to Tobolsk because in 1591 he notified the inhabitants of the city of Uglich about the death of Tsarevich Dmitry, which caused popular unrest. The alarm bell, as the instigator of the revolt, was thrown from the Spasskaya bell tower, his tongue was torn out, his ear was cut off, he was punished in public on the square with 12 lashes and was “exiled” to Siberia.   In 1892, after lengthy correspondence and obtaining permission from Emperor Alexander III, the bell was “amnestied”. The Uglich delegation took the bell from Tobolsk.
