There is one significant date in the history of the cultural development of Siberia – May 8 (22), 1705. The first mention of the stage performances in the city of Tobolsk in the Siberian Chronicle belongs to this day. From this date, the Tobolsk Theater traces its history, which has gone a long way from a seminarian (school) to a professional drama theater.

On December 25, 1991, the Tobolsk State Drama Theater was named after P.P. Ershova. Today, the oldest theater in Siberia cherishes the traditions accumulated over three centuries of service to art. The theater is a participant and winner of all-Russian and international theater festivals of different years.
