Osipov Yuri Sergeevich (born July 7, 1936) – Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, statesman and public figure.

Yu.S. Osipov is an outstanding specialist in the field of mathematics and mechanics. The main research is devoted to control theory, differential equations and their many applications.

Yuri Sergeevich is a native of the city of Tobolsk. Was born on July 7, 1936. In 1954, Yuri Osipov graduated from Tobolsk secondary school No. 13 with a gold medal. In 1959 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Ural State University. The first place of work – an engineer in a branch organization (1959 – 1961), then a postgraduate student, assistant, associate professor of the Ural University (1961 – 1969). In 1965 he defended his Ph.D. thesis. In 1969 he was elected senior researcher of the Sverdlovsk branch of the Mathematical Institute. V.A. Steklov Academy of Sciences of the USSR (since 1970 – Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ural Scientific Center of the Academy, IMM URO). In 1971 he defended his doctoral dissertation, in 1975 he received the title of professor. Head of the laboratory, head of the department of differential equations (1972 – 1993), director (1986 – 1993) IMM URO. Since 1990 – professor at Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, since 1991 – head of the department of Moscow State University, and since June 1993 – director of the Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

From 1991 to 2013, Yuri Sergeevich Osipov – President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Yu.S. Osipov is the author of more than 150 works that have received wide recognition in our country and abroad. Supervises major applied research.

Yuri Sergeevich takes part in the work of the government of the Russian Federation as a member of the Presidium of the government, he is a member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
